What should i expect to pay for a set of 7A cams (In & Ex)? Both from low miles engine.

Complete heads turn up on ebay for around £100 to £150. Not seen (m)any low mileage ones though. HTH

Am i right in thinking that it's literaly just the cams themselves that are swapped over and no futher parts i.e the head also?
I'm new to all this and i'm still trying to make sense of it all...!

      Cheers

I bought a whole head off ebay for 90 GBP the other week.

Yes, it is just the cams that are required from the head.

AFAIK you have to transfer the cam sprocket off the S2 exhaust cam as it has the hall sensor mounted in it and is required for cam position for the ECU. The exhaust cam is of a longer duration tahn the S2 item and so allows the exhaust gasses to escape easier and improves torque throughout the rev range with minimal losses on the bottom end. The inlet cam will fit but sacrifices midrange torque for overall power and is not well suited to the S2 engine. I believe that the inlet has been tried by one of the big power boys who subsequently reverted back to the S2 (or RS2) cam he had originally as the gain in power did not outweigh the loss in mid range torque.

7A inlet cam does have considerably more duration than the S2 item - so yes it works better at the higher revs. Horses for courses etc etc

The "books" say so, but when measured it isn't that much of a difference. The 7A is supposed to have 224 at 1mm lift, but when measured it's 212 ! S2 is 203?

Doug RS2 had his car rolling road with all the 7a inlet and exhaust, plots are on the forum.

It went better with 7A exhaust and standard inlet though

Just said that the difference in duration isn't that big
Gain & loss is depending of rest of engine. No universal answer is possible. If you got a custom engine, you have to test for yourself

Thought it was Doug but didn't want to get it wrong. Was IIR 3bhp up but quite a bit less torque.
