I was only at maplins the other day its one thing after the other, i changed the fuel filter on monday, changed the coil packs on tuesday, wednesday and thursday went like a stabbed rat then today i had huge jolt while racing a ford focus rs (i still flew past him) felt like the fuel was cut. Does anybody now whether changing the fuel filter would put a strain on the pump as i can hear it whining more that usual now.

Must be getting late - I had to re-read that one to get it

Dunno about your jolt, but I used some electrical contact cleaner to clean the MAF and connections as well, also used a carb cleaner on the ISV. Definitely helped smooth her out a bit. I think the ISV cleaning at least seems to be something to do every few thousand on mine - every time i do it, i notice the difference!

I had the same problem about 2 months ago, Used some electrical contact cleaner on the connectors and on the cross wiring that goes through the MAF, It looked clean afterwards but didn't make a single bit of difference. Turns out i had to buy a new MAF ( not one of bosches cheapest inventions.)
but its worth a try anyway, good luck.

No, for the maf! In a German Forum someone put the MAF (Except the electronic part) on a Glasses Ultrasonic Bath and had very nice results!

Yeah, it was a pain in the *** to get it off though!

I loosened all the clips to the point I could push them back up the hoses a little, and had to muscle the ISV out. I think I pulled the plug on the RHS, then popped the side hose off, and finally pulled the thing up 'n' out.

Sprayed it thoroughly with carb cleaner and let it all drain out, dried it off and refitted. Much smoother driving at low RPMs as a result.

or you could use a vonbeck `MAF BAF` mk2 [do a search] ask in a chemist if you can get ipa as it comes in a half litre bottle and if you did use a vonbeck`MAF BAF` mk2 you can re- use it. as it is about £10
