For high HP motors (400-500hp), is it a good idea to use the "violet" rod bearings for both the upper and the lower bearings? Or is this not necessary.

Vadim, the upper bearing (violet) on the ABY/AAN/ADU motors is reinforced, whereas the lower one (yellow) is just a plain bearing just as both of them are on a 3B. Hence my recommendation to get RS2 bearings (or 2 sets of upper ones) on RS2-spec 3Bs.

So what is fitted to the ABY's? Reinforced upper and normal lower big end bearings? What sort of tourqe figures require to run on both reinforced bearings?
