crankcase ventilation on a turbo car..

just wondering how audi does it. from a few pictures i've seen, it looks as though the engine gets it's vaccuum from the intake between MAF and turbo. if so, how do they filter out any oil vapours from the intake, or do they just let the vapour in and if it coats the compressor wheel with oil, so be it?

You got it, there was a group buy on the forum for alloy catch tank/oil seperator a while back to cure this very problem. The stock plumbing and flame trap probobly worked fine when the cars were brand new.

are there longevity issues with oil getting on the turbine? or is it more a cleanliness issue?

I'm not sure it will bother the turbine. It may help lubricate your compressor though.
It will however make the engine more prone to knock, due to the contaminated fuel/air mixture. It probably won't help your IATs either.

oh yes fitted on the rebuild and working! Back in Greece it made a big difference on hot days, you could notice it quite a bit with less than 30/70methanol inside.I only use the stuff needed for the windscreen washers and it is still amazing! Imagine a 30/70 mixture and a remap!!
I dont plan anything like that and for here in the UK im only keeping it on for a cleaning purpose only. This cold weather doesnt really have any effect on the power

It will make a difference when the temps are a bit higher but it'll still be arctic for you!

If you're anywhere near the North East then the colder it is, the less they wear

well im in Newcastle upon Tyne,so it is understandable!

on the subject though,i will be purchasing some methanol shortly so that i can use in some mixes and see the results.Methanol doesnt come cheap, but even 1 ltre will keep me a long time.

also does anyone know if the windscreen washing system can cope with the methanol?Im using the same bottle from the windscreen washer for the WI and i was wondering if it will have any effect.I figured that since the washing fluids are mostly methanol or ethanol themselves,it wouldnt be any problem, right?
