    Wastgate? dead or alive?

    Hey!
How can I detect that my wastgate works and there is no problems? Yesterday I drived but somehow the car wasnt so fast, the acceleration was realy slow..
One more question - when I drive, is it possible to hear how turbolarger speeds up? Dunno what, but I can hear kinda sound when I speed up my S2, yesterday, when my car slowly accelerated, the was no sound! After some time everything was OK and the mystic sound was again liek always!
At the first moment I tought that maybe its wastgate..
    Ideas?

Test the wastegate with a vaccuum pump (mityvac) to see if the diaphram is split and make sure the piston moves freely up and down, you need to remove the cap for this, be careful when removing the cap as their is spring underneath that is compressed so undo the retaining nuts carefully.

make vacum test as corey said. for senetry test you could put small hose to uper chamber (WG) pipe, and test if uper chamber hold presure..... if not you have to replaced WG diaphragma......

        thanks, I will check.
Today I noticed when my car slow down, its when I stop the car (without turning it off) for some minutes, temperature jumps up to ~92c and then the acceleration is just like nothing. When I drive for some time, the temp. jumps down a little bit under 90 (~80 and lower), then the car is back to like it should be.. what temp. should be normal for all the time?
So my question - wastgate somehow depends on temperature? What could cause this bad acceleration when my cars temperature is near 90c? The feeling is that turbo isnt working at all!

It sounds as if you might only be getting mechanical 0.4 bar boost. Connect a boost gauge up to the car and see what is happening to the boost. I would not suspect the WG at first - it could be the WGFV, the vacuum line to the MAP Sensor (ECU) or a few other things. If you have access to VAGCOM check for faults or use the blink codes on www.s2central.net.

Where can I get that ISO-COM adapter? As I understand, its no more available from ross-tech!
Also, I didnt find any information about the "blink codes", can someone tell me about these codes?

make pressure hose test first....you should have leaking....
if you dont have vagcom just go to your local audi dealer and ask him to connect your car to diagnostic computer ......

                Hey all!
Today I brought and connected the boost gauge to my S2, you are right - when my car warms up to 90c, I cant get more than 0.4 bar boost, but when the engine is cold, it gets up to 0.7bar and a little bit more. The ECU shows no faults.
Ideas? What and how should I check something..?
