Temperature warning light flashing on and beeping?? Ideas Please?!Car was cold.

ok. So the temperature warning symbol started flashing today in the (!) symbol location. It was making that annoying beeping too...

I was only taking the car for a run and it was dead cold (though its happened once before at normal running temperature) so I know the car is not actually overheating

Any ideas what it could be folks?? faulty temperature sender??
There is no fault code coming up for it anyway....

Also// the darned ABS light came on when I was out on the drive?? It went after maybe a couple of minutes..........any ideas on this also please?!

    THANKS

          THANKS Valjo....

I will take a look at disconnecting the sensor and if problem is cured I will order a new one.
          Cheers

Did you get to the bottom of this problem? I have the same symptoms - car oil and water temp seem fine, coolant level above minimum, but every now and then the coolant warning light flashes (along with the beeping) - kind of offputting. This only happens every now and then - for ~ 30 seconds or so then goes away again. Would be good to hear if you found a solution to your problem

iirc it was cooling water level sensor wire that had a partial break in the insualation not far off the connector end of it.....
Ended up soldering the wire and heatshrink sealing it..
              job done.
Could be your level sensor though...when you get the warning light next test to see if the sender on the top of the bottle is faulty...if not, trace the wires for continuity back through the loom (iirc theres a wiring diagram for it somewhere on www.s2-audi.co.uk)

              maybe here

                Thanks dude,

Problem I have of course is that it's intermittent will have another look for obvious damage. I do seem to get the problem more often when driving hard through corners - so level sensor may be my problem.

Ujimaflip, you say the water level is above minimum, but is it close to maximum? These coolant level warnings are a bit hair-trigger, see if topping up is enough to cure this. If you're actually filled to the max level position, check the level sensor.

Thanks for the tip - good to know there are others out there that have seen similar behaviour.
It's about half way between min and max. I'll try topping it up to the max if it happens again. It hasn't happened in the last 3 outings.... I hate these intermittent electrical problems
