    Vag-Com Diagnostic analysis. Help Please

    ok, I've just run Vag-com.
I had 2 faults, but can't remember one of them... I think it was a 561...
Anyway, i'll post more about that when it appears again.

    I have a 513 fault:

    00513 - Engine Speed Sensor (G28)
    03-00 - No Signal

What can I do to investigate/sort this problem?

Fyi, I am an electronics graduate, so I am familiar with a multimeter etc... I just don't know where to connect it.

    What is G28?
    What is J220?

Is there a list of that these numbers mean?

    Thanks folks

Was the engine running when you run the test??? I think G28 comes when you pull the Fault codes when the engine is switched off!
    Go Holset or Go RS4

Yep.. he's right. If you clear it, then run VAGCOM again with the engine running... miraculously this will have disappeared. Loads of folk will tell you this.. just bein a smart erse

So, maybe i'm a bit of a dunce...

I tested a lot of the control modules, and it hardly found any of them. Would having my engine on have made any difference? Which modules should I find? I got engine 1, airbag, and only a couple of others...

            What engine you got ?

If its a 3B then that's all you'll be able to see with VAGCOM...

If its ABY then you'll get extended engine diagnostics (including datalogging), the newer ABS and airbag where fitted. That is all.

If you had a LHD car with aircon you'd also get that, but we RHD territories got shafted with the analog aircon system.

              Thanks Paul.
How do I access these extra engine diagnostics?
Do I need my engine running?

              Thanks.

On the ABY they won't look like extras, unless you've logged onto a 3B.

The 3B only reports ten fields of data in Group 0.
The ABY (AAN and ADU) have lots of other more useful Groups of data that you can log to disk with the full version of VAGCOM. Its great for diagnostics and performance checks / comparisons.

before you ask - no you can't log boost. Its a very annoying omission on the ECU diagnostics.

How do I access this Data-logging?

And what is the "Single Reading" section for?
And is there a list somewhere of what these channels represent?

                  Thanks!
