What I am proposing is effectively making a motronic loom as opposed to an engine bay loom.
Basically you have the 55 pin connector. Most of these connectors are for the various sensors. By verifing which ones goes back to the 55 pin connector by checking their continuity, you can eliminate all the other wires. As you will see in your engine bay those two cylindrical connectors carry most of the other engine bay wiring which has nothing to do with the motronic, but are entwined.
In essense the motronic only needs to be connected to all its sensors and provided with power and earth. The few outputs from the motronic can then be hooked up.
Basically it is then a seperate loom. The engine bay will also have its own loom.
I was thinking that the advantage lies in minimising the number of connections necessary. In an ideal world it would be a straight swap. Otherwise you might be fussing about connector red t5 and find out it the washer bottle level switch!
