    GT2871 or 3071 ?? Upsides and downsides

I have now sold my KKK K26/27 (KX450) turbo so now im going to buy a Garret GT turbo. But im not sure to choose the 2871 or the 3071.........i can live with boost at 3K rpms. But i have read some stuff about compressor surge with these turbos. Im going to use 7A exhaust cam and AAN intake cam.

Take the 3071, just got my car done with a GT3071 and damn she is sweet.
Spools up nice and early from 2500 rpm and holds good boost all the way to redline.
good head room also on the top for efficency.
be sure its the 63AR if u dont want the lag.

Recently I've received some questions concerning the suitability of the GT-2871R and 3071R for street use, specifically with the loss of drivability. Since I own a chipped 200q20v still wearing its stock K24 and I do tuning on a pair of 200's that have at various times had an RS2, an RS2 Comp...

Thanx alot for that link!! I talked to a friend that works in a tuning company here in Norway and he told me to go for the 3071 instead of the 2871. The 2871 is a bit too small in his opinion, but its not a bad turbo!!! So i ill go for the 3071. Interesting reading on the Motorgeek forum

Im afraid about surging ive read about in another thread. Doesnt seem like thats a problem with the 3071.........talked to a friend that works with a Norwegian tuner and he recommended 3071 instead of the 2871.

Can someone give a brief explanation on internal vs external wastgates. Been looking at a Gt2871R but it has an internal wastegate. I believe an external wastegate is better. Is it possible to convert/modify.
Also, is there a difference between the turbo fittings on the s2 and rs2 exhaust manifolds? What are the correct turbo housings to fit (T25, T04 other)?
Anybody any opinions and potential upsides/downsides of the following spec turbo

                      GT2871R
                      Specs: 52 trim 71mm GT compressor, full ball bearing center, 53.8mm 76 trim tubine wheel in a .64 A/R T25 .

                      Thanks

You need to look at the GT2871R with the K26 hotside which will bolt onto a standard manifold and retain the external wastegate

                          Hi All
While fitted a gt 3071 to my friends rs2 this week 2 problem the housing of the turbo is hitting on body will try new engine mounts & see if that helps also do not think rs2 air box will fit now as the turbo is that much bigger .i Took it for a short drive no surging problems Need fit boost gauge to see what going on there seems to run well
Will fix small problems & do more road tests next week

I'm running GT2971R with internal wastegate and see only one reason for using external WG, use of original ex mani. If you change for tubular ex mani, use internal WG.

It's not as effecient as using an external wastegate as internal has lower flow than external when open.
