I was about to write the same myself. A friend of mine has a Rallye Golf ex-G60 with a 1.8 KR 16 valve turbo-engine in it. He bought a KKK K24 turbo from a Volvo S60R with internal wastegate. He chose that turbo only cuz exhaust plumbing will be alot easier. There is not much room for a large downpipe and wastegate pipe in that car. He used a K24 from an S2 when he had the engine in his fwd Golf. Will be fun to see how it will be with the S60R turbo.......i guess he has to remap his car with the new turbo but thats no problem cuz he is running Haltech E6X

Internal is directly in the sweep spot of turbine housing, while external is somewhere much less optimal position. Due to this internal is in my opinion much better than one might think when looking its size.

In Big Hp applications external is better but 400-500Hp isn't imho that big. It all depends on how much of the gas flow need to go thriugh the WG (turbine back pressure).

many time with internal waste gate you may have boost creep problem at high rpm as the waste gate canot flow enough.
At least that why the subaru guy's with STI port the wast gate or move to external waste gate

Forgot about boost creep, use to suffer that on my old car. There is no such sweet spot for a wastegate, it's all about the amount of gas that can be flowed through it when opened without causing interference to exhaust output of the turbine.
