    Guess the problem!

Driving home last night on the M1, struggled up to and couldn't get over 70 mph and engine felt like it was big style mis firing. thought id carry on, got into traffic and loads of smoke came out the bonnet . oil pressure stayed at 4 bar on tick over, normally about 2 ish. decided to pull over and pop the bonnet to find it had droped its oil, most of it on the bulkhead end drivers side, and had to wait for the the AA TO TOW ME HOME! (Stopped in time though, just had the last smidgin of oil left on the dipstick) AA man was clueless. But tomorrow morning i shall invesigate. Who fancies a bet what it is?

I would start with the 2 oil breather hoses coming of the back of the cylinder head,

Strange one! Cleaned it up ran it and couldnt see it leaking, had a look at the spark plugs because it felt like it was missing, one of the HT leads had perishied and left broken bits in all the plug holes. Two spark plugs were loose, and one was completely out of its threads and when i took it out to have a look half of the threads looked melted. tried to fit another plug in, but just as i thought the threads are gone in the head too. OOOOPS! Still cant work out why it chucked the oil from here though? A crack maybe? deffinatly come from here though.

the only way to get the spark plugs back in again and head re-threaded is a head off job i think, or im HOPING SOMEONE HAS AN IDEA!!!!!!!!!

me! i changed them before because it was running rough to discover a few were loose, fitted new ones about 4 months ago! I cant work out why oil would come out from there, and not just a bit?

                    sounds

like a broken gasket somewhere, and I think i would make sure no threads fell in, that would not be nice..

Probally too late for that. I sure some of the rubber from the HT lead has gone through into the cylinder. Ill have to check how much ive got in my piggy bank.

                        Hi!
Don't forget that rings need the temperature (expansion) and pressure of combustion to seal. Then there is going to be the condition of the bores/rings. Effectively you had had a 2000rpm oil pump. Guess that would make a bit of a mess. Probablylost a couple of litres. A little at pressure makes a big mess!

could well be, i didnt think of that.. I was just reading about dougs head change and helicoiling the threads in the head, looking for a few tips or info on how to go about it. Either way now the head needs to come off to do the treads for the spark plugs.... Should be interesting, im not scared taking it off, its puting it back that gives me the willies!

S2 sorted again and back on the road.. repaired the spark plug threads in situe. Just borrowed a spark plug insert tool from a mate. Took about 10 minutes. If anyone needs some advice on it I will be more than glad to help. And to think i was going to take the head off! just as well i didnt or id still be saving for the parts now.
