@aaron - you don't *need* twin turbos for a 600bhp target. Unless you really like pi$$ing money away for fun. The plumbing and control complexity is just going to drive you nuts (if you try do it yourself) or bleed your wallet (if paying someone).

Just select the right monster turbo if 600bhp really is your bag but just live with the inevitable lag...

Stupid question, but have you ever driven something with 600bhp ? Its just that most people work themselves up to that rather than go balls out for such a radical spec on their 1st project car. Maybe money is no object. Just hope it doesn't end in tears for you... Go for your dreams like, but keep your head screwed on and don't try to bite more than you can chew...

Sorry if that sounds like I'm trying to teach you to suck eggs here, but some of your questions do come across as a little inexperienced in these things. There's no lack of enthusiasm, but a wee bit of common sense goes a long way. Maybe I'm reading it all wrong.

If I had the time and money to build a trackday car from an S2 I'd be setting myself goals along the lines of getting it as light as possible, with fully adjustable suspension, monster brakes and lots of safety equipment. Naturally it would need a full roll cage to stiffen the entire chassis - this sadly adds weight makeing the 1st target all the harder. I'd invest in some decent instruments and datalogging so I could record progress of setups and such. Then I'd make sure I had proper lightweight alloys and track tyres. Finally I'd be looking at the engine and genuinely say that I'd go with no more than 300bhp (say 450Nm). When I've found the limit on all of that, only then would I think about 400 -> 500 -> 600bhp.

The ultimate engine spec should be determined by what you want to do... For my mind a 600bhp monster lends itself to the drag strip as it won't be driven much on part throttle/load. You need lots more mid range torque for a good car for circuits with corners... Take a look at what Albert is doing with his Polish monster - THAT is a project car to aspire to.

Can't help but I have to agree with Paul on this issue. My track car isn't powerful at all compared to my S2, only 130bhp but it weighs about 850kg and has big Brembo brakes, full custom ss exhaust, shorter ratio rear diff, short-shift gear lever, full Eibach Pro-kit suspension, Koni adjustables, front and rear strut braces and an FIA OMP racing bucket seat that isn't easy to get into at all but so snug and perfect whilst cornering...

On a track like Spa-Francorchamps, I was keeping up with cars much more powerful than mine like a Volvo T-5 and it's 240bhp engine and he fried his brakes chasing me after I overtook him in my old BMW...

Being light and being able to really brake and corner hard for lap after lap is what counts the most on a track IMHO...

600hp is the kind of power a DTM car has and even with their space-age technology chassis and humongous brakes, they're still a big handful to drive...

But hey, live and let live, it's entirely up to you to decide what's best for you !

I would rather wait that the new VGT turbo of the new porsche 997 from Borg warner get available in different sizes.

this turbo is the first VGT that can operate at temperature over 1000°C

My dream RS2 would be very flat torque curve from 2000 rpm to 6000 rpm and max power around 400-450 Hp
RS2 chip by mihnea,PKM short IM, forge dump valve, 3" custom stainless exhaust, 18"X8" Porsche 996 rims, conti contact 245/35 Front 225/40 Rear, QR sport top mount, Powerflex bushes, aloy sub frame bushes, neuspeed 19mm RARB,Hard tranny mount, V8 torsen on RS2

@ S2central - I am still planning and playing around with ideas, ultimatley around the 600 mark is where I would plan to get so obviously I need to build the engine that can take that punishment from day one not have the engine out two or three times to change bits and waste time.
I have already stated the way I am going to run this project (in a nutshell). Start witht the bodywork and chassis, interior, braking, suspension, etc. Then get it running on the original engine (or a UR engine if one becomes available). This will be a fine tuning stage so that all running gear is correct, all equipment can be checked and everything finalised with the car before getting my hands on an S2 engine, stripping it replacing the rods, pistons etc to make that capable of taking the power, Then throw that in as standard (chipped) and run around with that for a few months to check the setup with the weight of that engine. Then start power hunting.

I am not going to build a car sort an engine and then hunt for 600Bhp straight off. I sort of feel that would be a tad stupid and I would probably end up killing myself!
Fortunatley I don't want to do that. SO ther gradual build up is the way I have always planned on going (due to money).

I only aske questions to test the water, see what has been done before, stretch my knowledge of you guys and feed my spirit for the things to come.

Also I could say I want to build a drivers car not a sack of S**T.

            Cheers
Please don't take what I ask as is it going to be done. The S1 project is going to be done but engine wise I am going to ask away to build up what I know form what you guys know.

Sorry rant and defensive sheilds dropped.

            Cheers

              two turbo`s on an I5 :
the two 24`s on ES-tuning`s white URQ shared pulses from the third sylinder and they suspected that this caused overheating. they had problems with the rod or piston on that one.
