A bad misfire could also bend a rod. Make sure that ALL of the 3B ignition system is in A1 condition, and you shouldnt get any problems with misfires. BTDT.

That's why I wouldn't want to tune the old 3B too much without decent rods.
Is there any evidence of detonation on the pistons?

It's hard to see traces of detonation on forged pistons, I have seen some US 20vt engines that had detonated pretty badly during their lives where no evidence of detonation could be seen on the pistons or the heads, yet they had pinged literally like church bells before, and I really mean audibly.

Just another thought. IMHO on 3Bs only detonation is responsible for bent rods, nothing else.

Don't ask where the other rod went.

You seem to have gained one.
was this with an RS2 turbo?
