Engine Died?

Just had a quick question

I was driving my car in second gear put my foot down and when it hit 4000 rpm the car instantly cut off and wouldn't start backup. I thought it might of been the Petrol pump at first, all i did was pulled the fuses out to reset the ECU and it started straight up.

Does anyone know what would cause this? I presume it is some kind of protection for the car?

I have got a bad split in my intake pipe which I have done a bodge job on with mastick tape which is just a temporary thing. Im getting this fixed with some samco hoses which I can't wait to get.

tape is not going to work .boost will blow it off

I know its not the best solution for the moment but when there was no tape on it the car was really backing off and was jolting all the time especially when going up hills.

I was just curious what would cause the car to completly shut down?

i had a turbo pipe go once and the car wouldn't even start .put a new pipe on and it should cure it.

Mark (Rotoryboy) had that. Hose blew off the turbo outlet and stalled. Struggled like hell to start and would only continue to run with the Maf disconnected, even then the revs bounced up and down like Jordans jugs.
Sharpishly put back on in the rain and the dark and all cured.

I had this coming off motorway roadworks on Sunday, it's most embarrassing!

The jubilee clip holding the hose onto the metal top pipe popped off when I put my foot down. Over to the hard shoulder and it stalled. Knew what it was straight away.

Fortunately I always carry a screwdriver.
