    Engine Chip Options

Just bought '96 S2 Coupe, just testing the water, how much would an engine chip of some kind cost? What are the best ones etc...and gains in power...?

    Cheers

right that sounds good to me. How does the car take it? I mean, is it a massive increase in power and does the standard clutch/box like it (or am I asking a stupid question there!!!) Also, insurance? would they know?

Its up to u what u do with insurance but best to tell them just in case. Car handles it very easily. I believe this is how the s2 should have some out the factory, it is a great mod for instant power. Dont forget your brakes though

LOL did that in reverse, although i did have porsche monoblocks on the car when i bought it.

If you want a genric chip speak to S2central which is about £200-250 i think.

MRC do real time tuning which is better as it's tailored to your car but if you've got no engine mods then not as cost effective.

Once you've got sucked down the RS2 upgrade route, and you're credit card is maxed with bank loans up to the hilt, just remember to save that extra 500 squid to make it all worth it :mischeif:

Skipped points 2 and 3... garage meet 2007 maybe

Generic chips (e.g. MTM) also available at varying prices from others (e.g. QSTuning).

Actual HP result can vary a bit depending on the state of your engine and fuel you are using.

Most of the chips are undectable to any of the the computer diagnostics tools (e.g. VAG COM etc), so if you don't tell, they are unlikely to know. Some chips are a replacement in the ECU itself, so opening the ECU would reveal it real quick - but then this shouldn't happen exactly often.

Clearly an insurance company might be within their rights to use a non-notified modification to wriggle out of any potential claim, if they did then find out. There are plenty of threads on here (search for insurance) mentioning possible insurers who will economically cover modified cars if you do choose to tell them.

NCT any of the above etc. Best of luck - hope you have an understanding credit card company!

                  Ck.

bang for buck go the mrc route, you won't be disappointed with the result, i have thought about going the rs2 route myself but isn't a cheap option especially when you factor all the brake and suspension work necessary to get the best out the increase in power. I have driven on my old urs4 stage 2 mrc and it's amazing the difference it makes, certainly enough for me and the south's crowded roads.
