Throttle Valve potensiometer

Hello,
can anyone tell me what are the symptoms of this part failing?
It seems that my problem now that i encounter it more often goes something like this:
As i press the accelerator pedal and slowly reach 3000rpm,i only need to press on it a bit further to engage warp speed.Now that the problem has appeared,it seems that when i do that,i get that hesitation feeling especially on 5th and 6th gear,but as i press it a little further then,everything is alright again!

does this sound something to do with the potentiometer?

also something that i just remembered...if this has anything to do with it...
when cold,the car seems to be very heavy,not wanting other than 1st gear to move.Have to wait a couple of min.before anything else comes into play.Clutch works fine,only it seems that it doesnt want to work with 2nd gear.only moans rather than move

You can check the throttle pot with a multimeter, just measure the resistance and look for irratic behavour, jumps etc. It should be a smooth resistance count from closed throttle to WOT. I've toasted a couple of them on my 7A and they start giving similar symptoms when they fail, usually around 1/3rd throttle opening it wears and dosent give a signal so the ecu thinks the throttle is closed again, open the throttle a little more so it gets a singal and away it goes. I've not heard of anybody having that problem with an S2 though.
