    Bust Radiator

I have found my coolant leek

Just to make sure, this is my auxiliary radiator, isn't it?

What is the best and cheapest replacement, and where can I get it?
I assume there's changing instructions somewhere on the forum...?

Here's a pic of my main radiator... Is this green tinge across the front something to be worried about?

    Thanks,

    JohnB

Other way around, the one tucked away at the back is the main rad, cost is about £100 from GSF, Jamo has posted the part number several times over.

The smaller one at the front is the auxillary rad and can get away with taking it out if u wish.

      Thanks Ant!

Maybe you can tell me, THe black cover on top... Is it part of the radiator, or can I take it off without causing any damage or destruction?

      Thanks,

        Hi John,

The black part is the top of the radiator, it is all one part. I notice you also have Aircon which makes radiator replacement that much harder than it already is!

If you are going to tackle this yourself I would recommend starting on a Saturday morning and allowing yourself at least a whole day to be safe. It could be quicker, but it is very tricky.

Here is the info you need, from the thread when I did mine....

Any more questions post them up!

        Cheers,

        Steve

Thanks again Jamo and others who helped me on this one

          Thanks very much Steve!!

Is it an option to get someone to repair it, or is replacement the best road to go down?

Oh, and how can you tell from my pics that I have air-con?

If I have any more questions, i'll post them

          Thanks!!

Because you have the condesor for aircon mounted infront of the main rad.

The aux rad is at the front on the car inbetween the head lights (the one you thought was the main rad)

The rad is non repairable it will need changing

You can make a repair, but consider it very temporary, ie about 2 short journeys... Learnt this my self a couple of weeks ago... And as Steve said, allow a couple of days as the old one can be a real SOB to remove!!

Replace it, its only £100. The labour could be interesting if you take it to a garage though.

If you have a decent socket set and a jack and axle stands etc and are reasonably handy, I would have a go at it. It is not technically that challenging, but it will try your patience and your knuckles..

Get yourself some genuine Audi Antifreeze and flush the system and refill while you are there.

                Good luck

                Cheers,
