    3B IC limit

    Hi
My -91 S2 3B has some engine mods, but standard IC. At what hp level/boost level do I have to change the IC for a bigger one?

I am running RS2 turbo/exh.man., 3 in. turbo back exhaust, 250 kPa map and software for this combination. Should be ~330 hp. Max boost 1,5-1,6 Bar.

And, almost forgot, Happy new year to all!

    Hi "Dude"

About intercoolers.... the bigger the better
A bigger intercooler will not only have better cooling efficiency but will also have less heat soak thus allowing much more "hard driving" before starting to raise intake charge temps.

I don't know if anyone here as a clue on this, but I would say over 300 hp you definitly need at least an RS2 IC.

      Hi PB

Thanks for the (fast) answer. Guess I'll start looking for a RS2 IC, will be nice to have when spring/summer comes around. Right now it's about -10°C outside so the original IC will do fine..

      Regards Leif-Helge

An RS2 intercooler would greatly help that modded 3B engine by reducing some heat soak which is apparent in hard driving during hot summer days.

Marco's ~300bhp is a good reckoner, but I think the reduced air temps even on a stock 3B or ABY would keep everything running sweeter on hot days.

The RS2 intercooler isn't *too* big in my opinion. I personally wouldn't go much bigger though as reduced throttle response could be a possible side-effect with an even larger volume of air to pump thru the intercooler.

          Cheers,

Of course there are some resonable limits....

              IC...

I think I will go for the RS2 IC, to keep the cost down, and because a bigger one will have to be specially made, more work and I don't have the skills nor the equipment to do it.

But I am tempted to get the a 300 kPa map and software, together with other bits needed (RS2 injectors and fuelrail, new pump??) to "max out" the current setup. (Hope maybe someone on this forum have some advice on this ).

Will the RS2 IC still be enough?

Speak to Mihnea about custom programming for your needs... He can do a lot that is generic, but the max spec cannot be achieved without dynamic mapping on your engine with regards fuelling, EGT and knock limits.

                  Leif,

There are many threads over this topic expecially in the "Engine and Turbo" section. If you take a look around you'll find many comments, tips and infos.
