    7A cams installation

    Hi there

Was woundering what I will need for installing 7A cams on my S2?

I have ported RS2 (ADU) head. So whats needed to be bought new; Valves? (the once in it now has only driven 15000 km) valve gaskets (dunno english name), lifters, retainers? Can I use the parts thats running now? Will it be big advantage to buy adjustable cam shaft pulley?

And last question, is only exhaust cam adviced to be used?

    Thanks
    Thomas

From what I have read on here you are best off just using the exhaust cam, I have both in mine and it lacks a bit of power low down the revs, then you get a huge punch of power further up the rev range. I believe (correct me if I am wrong in anyway guys) that the stock Intake cam will give better response further down and greater drivability instead of the on of nature ob both 7a cams.

it's the good old battle between lowendtorq and speed, There are only compromises
Try it out, it fits bolt-on. I used adjustable gear that I could change the angle between the cams.

        Hi again

Thanks for the answers. So you mean that wenn my setup (as it is now) only have droven 17k km. It wont be necessary to buy new lifters, valves, springs etc.? And how about the RS2 springs are they hard ernough to make the cams go 100%?

I have the /a cams, so would be easy to try it out...

Any other advices? on installing both, or just the exhaust.

Thanks again, this forum is so very great!!!

        /Thomas

IIRC the 7A exhaust cam has 054 102 stamped on it. It also has another 4 digit casting number which varies from cam to cam. HTH

                  Super, the cams are 7A

Was really droppin to install the cams, while the project is now on third month, and really wants the car on the road soon. Didn't think that the difference was so big, never heard that the RS2 cams would'nt last for over 500 hp before? but now after searching this luxurious place of data i can see...

Only questions now I have to make clear is: shall I install both cam or only exhaust? and will my RS2 springs, retainers, valves do the job good ernough? If not I really wanna know, then I'd rather buy the new stuff now, than have to make the adjustments on the ECU twice.

                  Thanks again

It depends on how high you need to rev the poor thing. At high boost the valves can take a beating and I would suggest these

                    also titianium retainers

                    and then uprated valve springs

For the complete set of inlet and exhaust valves, the inlets are stainless and the exhaust are iconnel as the link says.
They are £364 inc VAT but plus shipping from the UK.
I can also just supply the exhaust valves in standard and larger sizes in iconnel also.

034's range of products are huge, if you can think of it, they do it. Just ask and I am sure I can do it for a very good price.

                          Hi again

I think I will set rev. limiter about 8000 rpm. So the engine doesnt get beated up that bad. Its allways in the high revs. "bad things happend" as i have heard. Think I will try just putting it in? Allready costs are way over what I expectet to put in the engine. So if I can save the last 400 pound I'd really like to. But again if you guys mean its a shame not to offer the money on the valves etc. I will buy it, while its not much compared to the money allready put in...

The max boost will be set somewhere between 1,9 and 2,0 bar.

When going for 550 hp, would you then prefer that I put in the both of them? Still cant deside up to go for the RS2 inlet cam, if I put in both 7A will the boost be coming later? or doesnt it affect the spooling of the turbo? Must also be a fair chance on boost a little bit before when the 7A exhaust cam has higher lift and more air will pass. Right now it max boostes at about 4500-4600 rpm.

Really would appreciate more oppinions on installing 1 or both cams?

                          Thanks again
                          Thomas

If going for 500+ install both. Have run with it in my 2.5 and works great

In your case I would go for both.
