Jerking while driving (audi 80)

Hi,
The following problem is driving me crazy.. any help will be appreciated..

when driving the car will suddenly start jerking with loss of acceleration this frequently stops and starts of its own free will. when this happens if the car is not moving the revs at idle keep dipping and the engines struggles almost like it is going to stall but does not the revs pick up again in a yo-yo effect. This problem happens randomly and without pattern.. been to the garage but just my luck it stopped happening there.. then started again. can anyone help??

ive had the same type of problem i changed the dizzy rotor,plugs cap and leads and it was fine.many times this happened and thought it was sensors but thought start at the spark and work my way round to fuel and air.all i have probs with now is getting the engine cooler as it dont like hot weather.

Thanks, plugs were changed but problem continued.. somebody said it could be the throttle body but will try leads like you suggested first. cheers
