  • How do you remove piston oil sprayers?

I can't the damn things out!

These are the oil sprayers mounted in the block and cool the pistons with oil from the bottom.

I'd like to get them out before I send it to be bored for my new pistons!!!

    TIA

Spray jets are secured in place with torx head bolts, just undo them and work the jets loose.

      Thanks Siena.

I got the bolts out, its the "working loose" I am having trouble with. I didn't apply too much force yet as I was not sure how they were held in.

      I'll try again...

My oil spray heads were held in with 5mm allen headed bolts. Three of them came out easily and the other two had to be lightly tapped from the bore side to get them out. I found twisting them from side to side helped to loosen them. I also noticed traces of blue thread lock under the heads and along the threads. The 3B/200 engine manual doesn't mention using locking compound when replacing them, should I be using this when putting them back in?

            cheers,
            Steve.

I would use thread lock, it certainly won't do any harm, but imagine one of those little jets working loose with the engine running, doesn't bear thinking about! :eek2:

Siena, Agreed m8. I think thread lock is in order I really can afford to rebuild the engine again

Dave, Looks like you've had a nightmare removing these jets. Perhaps a bit of heat on them would help?

Thanks for the tip Steve. I tried that too but it did not seem to help on other ones. I think with 235k miles of crap build up they are just stuck in there!
I will do the heat on this last one as I am not getting anywherre at the moment.
I spent 3 beers on it last night!!!
