Regular 2" box section belive mine was 1/8" wall. Couldn't get anything with a thicker wall at short notice during the holidays. There wasn't anyone open for business.
I could send you mine Doug but it's a bit wobly in the harmonic damper now. Needs to be tight so you get a proper torque transfer.

Yep. 1.75"x1.75"x3/16" angle. Fine for undoing becuase the thin edge sat behind the rubber bush on the snub mount. But whilst doing up I had the flat side of the angle against the rubber blob so it kept trying to ride off with the torque. I had a piece of 1/8" thick stainless wire which sorted that. I made a loop to hold it in the right position to stop it sliding off the bush. It worked but there is room for improvement. I can bodge you a tool good enough to do a change or 2 whilst I am waiting for new material. I've got spare box so I can cut off whats there and re-weld a new piece in. 10 minutes work but my welder is nearly 300 miles away! I'll see if I can find someone with a MIG/arc/oxy/whatever at work that I can borrow.

No worries..but it relies on me finding a welder to borrow (oh yeah, and an angle grinder to cut the old bit off). I am sure there is a very good reason why all of my 'useful' tools are in my dads workshop in Wales!
My ECU should be winging its way across the UK for treatment. I have had a few offers for ECUs so I have a few fallback options. 16th you need yours back right? What about the tool? When will you be re-assebling things?

Hopefully be getting most things in my hands for the start of next week so I can get most of it done during the week(tool would come in handy at the beginning of next week) and starting her up over the weekend of the 16th.
Don't need to do 'all' of the water hoses. Just the few that are otherwise innaccessible. Makes sense to re-orientate the hose clamps (jubilee clips) on the accessible water hoses to ensure that you can access them all with the front end back on! Last thing you want is an accessible hose that can't be changed easily because the hose clips are in awkward positions! Been there, done that!!

also thanx to all your posts above, without you guys i would never be able to do this!
Can you not just get a length of water hose and cu it yourself for the 2 hoses? I'm guessing the inside dioameter is 10mm - need to check first.
Is your small radiator leaking? Just bin it and block the 2 pipe to it.
are those Audi clips? I thought you needed a special tool for them - just get jubilee clips.
Have you got the tool to lock the crank? Have you got a 3/4" driver, 27mm socket(3/4 " fitting) ?? I wouldn't like to use a1/2" driver/socket to get hte crank bolt off.
Get out there now and start spraying the mounts for the bumper that are in the wheel arches with WD40 - they rust - badly.
Originally posted by Pisobiker Ski, any time somebody asks about how to do cambelt replacement I always address them to this article I find pretty helpfull and well described.
Car of this article is a S4 (the old one based on the A6 chassis, I think) so that removal of front bumper is slightly different. But engine is just the same as well as all the work needed over it (including tensioner and water pump change).
