They have numbers on them, Pic below will show you the direction, beveled edge facing the rear of the car, and the rear most two have a flat top. I dont have any closer pics but you may be able to figure out from these images which number goes where...

Ermm what you should have done was to mark the caps so that they went back on in the right sequence, i read somewhere alongtime ago that they are line bored to fit the actual camshaft and therefore wasn't advisable to use caps off a different engine. Correct me if i am wrong someone, it's in the dim distant past that i read that.Comment

Correct, there mounted on the head then machined. Just remembered there is a diagram in my Bentley manual showing which number cap goes where so if your still stuck let me know and i'll dig it out....91CQ20v - Gone to a new home

As an aside i do know of people that have cracked a cam cap by over tightening it, so be carefull, and the same people went down to the scrapyard and got one off another car, worked fine so i guess there must be a little tolerance in these things.

The caps are inline bored on the S2 so theorectically it's new head time if the above happensOriginally posted by iain1067As an aside i do know of people that have cracked a cam cap by over tightening it, so be carefull, and the same people went down to the scrapyard and got one off another car, worked fine so i guess there must be a little tolerance in these things.
