    Vag-Com probs?

dan_b kindly let me use his vag-com, but i am having problems trying to get the codes. When i test COM1,2 and 4 all i get up is Com port status: inaccessible. But COM3 comes up with COM Port status: OK interface status : 5-modem!
After doing these test i went onto to test the engine and it comes up with:
    Interface status=5 Interface Not Ready,
Possible causes: Incorrect Com port selected,
    Interface not plugged in,
    Ignition not turned on,
    K-Line Stuck.
Then it says for more details use TEST on options screen.
Any suggestions on what im doing wrong? Thanks

K line stuck is the problem.

Often caused by an aftermarket radio

What do u mean? do u mean my aftermarket radio is stopping the vag-com from reading the codes? At the moment i dont have a head unit in the car. Am i going off the track of what u intended here?

Sounds like you may not have selected the correct com port for the Vag Com cable. Use Windows device manager to check the com port that's been assisgned to the cable. Do you have an internal modem in the Pc that's using com 5?

Make sure no apps are running that could grab control of a com port, modem/fax software, label printers, etc. Most laptops will also map a com port for the inbuilt modem or iR port which can cause issues. Best think to do is go into the bios and disable the onboard iR and modem, and just leave the normal com port active and try it again. You could also try changing the port to another number in the bios, default will be com1 so try making it com 2 or 4 as they use a different interrupt and may resolve conflicts.

Just tried everything within my capabilities on the computer. I changed the port to COM port 1, I turned off the modem, but still i get no where. I now get interface not ready everytime i check the engine. When i do a test i get com port ok:interface not ready. What is the interface and anymore suggestions as to what is wrong? Also how do i eliminate the k-line fault? Thanks

Are you using a VAG-com that is already registered to another computer?

I lent Steve my software and cable as it didn't work properly on my slaptop when Steve came up - I hadn't actually registered mine, but can't see why that would make a difference?

If it's unregistered you can download the correct version from the website
