    Tool for spark plugs?

    Hi all

Can someone tell me what size socket fits the spark plugs as I can't seem to find one that fits. And does anyone know where to get one from. I presumed it was a 17mm deep socket would fit but it will not fit down the shaft.

    Cheers

Just found a thread which says the spark plugs are 16mm, I'll try that.

Thought I'd check them to make sure there not loose, I have read a few bad threads regarding loose spark plugs

I found that the handle end of the wheel brace from the standerd tool kit fits the spark plugs. Also be careful if you are using a normal socket set as when i used one then i found the socket was a bit too snug in the hole down to the plug and i had a stuggle getting the socket out again.

The handle of the wheel brace is actually designed to be used for removing and refitting spark plugs. Can't use it to torque them to the correct setting though.

There is a special tool, 3122B, which is a skinny socket with an extension bar attached.

I went up Halfords and got a tool which allowed a torque wrench to be attached. And it had a magnetic end which pulled the plugs out. It was about 8 pound

Ended up changing all the plugs. Got then from GSF for 44 pound which I thought wasn't to bad. Vagparts spark plugs are about 55 pound not sure if they are better plugs or not.

Reading through a few threads regarding spark plugs it looks like the standard Bosch ones are the ones to go for. So thats what I did.

Beware of the plug sockets with the rubber ring to grab the plug, great in threory but once you fit the new plugs you cant get the damn socket out I ended up buying two and removed the rubber ring from one of them.
