That may well be the case Mike, but IMHO if it is, its a 'design fault' considering the apparent state of the internals of mine when I changed it and 'cracked' it open and examined it out of curiosity.

I stand by the statement. It is designed for the life of the car. That is fact nothing else.

It may well hit problems later in life but Audi don't care about cars after they're 5 years old.

              Mike,

I don’t doubt that your statement is indeed fact, and there was certainly no criticism meant or aimed at yourself for making it .

But as I and others here, indicated earlier, Audis thinking with regard to fuel filter ‘service intervals’ was certainly flawed, experience has ‘seemingly’ shown that the fuel filter does indeed require renewal at the higher mileages as is evidenced by Lee’s fuelling problems……..and strangely enough the day after I renewed mine the car went on the rollers and suffered massive over fuelling at WOT, presumably more fuel was getting through and screwed up the previous map , it maxed out the RR’s CO meter, I don’t know if that was the cause, but it makes you think, doesn’t it?
I know that some of us here are a bit keen on ‘modding’/improving things (I am probably one of the 'keenest' of culprits), but I am sure that no one in their right mind would want to do a ****** job like that just for the sake of it.

              Best regards ,

              Mark.

I couldn't get my pinch bolt out as it was heavily corroded. I figured the new filter was too large for the existing bracket, and faced with an imposiible to access pinch bolt, I decided to cut it off to free the old filter. This plastic bracket is welded to the plastic tank. This means the bracket cannot be replaced without replacing the tank at the same time. Maybe, you have to remove the tank to get proper access to the filter. Only Audi could come up with that one. Our tanks are a wierd shape on the Avant too aren't they? The new filter fits VERY snuggly with all pipes attached and it had to be pressed home with quite a bit of force being careful with the position of hoses since the filter is vertically mounted. Since I used quite a bit of force to push the filter home, I didn't do anything more to retain it when I reconnected the hoses. It was getting dark on Christmas eve and I had to travel about 270 miles that night. Even today it is still tightly in position. I will do something about securing it better but haven't figured anything out yet.

Anyone else used the ABY coupe filter on the Avant?
