ok, just been down this (very) painful route with my Audi A6 before telling audi and their 'master' tech where to go....

Now with Audiman (tom) and having the engine effectively rebuilt because audi couldn't diagnose a problem.........B*&^%$s Local Audi dealership wanted over £800 just to lift the head after almost 2 years denying there was any trace of a problem Tom lifted the head to find a f**ked headgasket and an equally f**ked block from the amount of coolant that had been leaking into one of the pots erroding the skimmed surface of the block...

If you are not happy with what they have done or are suggesting, call Audi Customer Service and get it logged as a complaint (it'll focus the mind of the dealer for sure) You should be able to get them to work down the figures for any further work, especially if you are unhappy about what they have done so far or the order they have done it in (i.e missing simple stuff out etc).

I presume they replaced the head gasket before they refitted the head? If they took it off and then upon replacement its not all ok then I cannot see why they are asking you to foot the bill??

If they have done something to fix a fault and caused another, there is no reason why you should pay extra - i'm suprised if its a bent valve etc that they didn't spot it as part of an inspection?

    Good luck....

Yeah, I'd have thought they'd've noticed a bent valve too.

And idle was never rough before this incident, so I can't help but think that either they, or their engineering company caused this fault.
