    Boost gauge pillar mount

After a year of S2 ownership i finally bought and fitted a boost gauge .

wasnt too sure where to place it, but ended up mounting it against the a pillar.

took thw electrical feed off the glove box interior light, and fitted an inline fuse, but found the led lighting a bit too bright .

was gonna tint the glass, then decided to fit a dimmer circuit to the negative.

very happy with the results, just need to finish the job off by getting black shroud to wrap around the vacuum pipe and wires into the gauge.

thought the silver surround looked out of place too so painted it black to try and blend it in .

I tried to do this a couple of year back but I couldnt get the contour onto the pillar so I was happy with it so mounted in the aux gauges instead.

I got the mount from demon tweeks (blue section-modifications section).

Cost about £16 but vat + delivery took it to about £25 . well worth it thou, its in good view, and after a bit of cutting, filing it fitted snuggly against the pillar.

i used a hand saw to cut main form, then carefully finished it off with a coarse hand file.

made the dimmer circuit myself. have a few spare that i will bring to billing if anyone requires one

you could put the wires thruogh the little round air vent,i placed my tweeters in there.pop off the vent top and put a hole in the bottom of the pipe n feed it down hay presto.

                        Looks good!

My pillar mount turned up yesterday, gonna get stuck in to shaping it tonight. Where is the best place to feed the boost pipe and wiring through, and the best route to take behind the dash?

Plus, I notice the smoked gauge I have needs 2 feeds. One perm live, and one switched. Where would be best to tap off from?

fitting the t piece into the ecu vacuum hose is a PITA (a sod of a job). my back is still in pain from the effort.

best to remove the glovebox, and this will also give you better access to the bulb mounting for the switched connection.

for the perm live your probably better off going off one of the cd/radio lines, or aux gauge lines. i also fitted an inline fuse as well, just to be safe.

i found best way to feed the electric lines, and boost tube, is to remove the handbrake surround, ease back the aux gauge shroud and remove the panel beneath the steering wheel.

all the wires/tubes will run direct across from the ecu to the a pillar gauge.

if you want any photos let me know.

                          Brian

Greg which aux gauge did you remove to place the boost gauge in? I'm presuming the voltmeter?

I've always thought that that would be where I'd put it if I were installing a boost gauge. Either that or do a more ambitious project and put it where the water temperature gauge is now on the main instrument pack and then move the water temp down to where the voltmeter lives...
