  • When to go to solid lifters

Is there a hp point on these engines where it is advised to run solid lifters? If so, has anyone done it, or know where that point is? Did the Audi 20v IMSA car have solid or hydraulic lifters?
    Thanks

don't think it is so much the bhp, it is more to do with Cam ramp profile and high rpm, sorry don't know more than that

Solid lifters are only worth fitting if the engine is going to be run at sustained high RPM, approx. 6,7500 +. At high RPM, there is a tendency for the oil to 'froth', i.e air bubbles are trapped, which will cause the hydraulic lifters to rattle, as there isn't anough oil pressure to operate them at full efficiently. This of course, will alter the valve timing and lift.

Note the Sport quattro and S8 used solid lifters...
