What would cause a sudden increase in fuel consumption

Had a few parts dismantled in the engine, boost pipes, air filter box including the meter unit (MAF) and a few electrical connectors.

Put everyting back togheter and now the car seems to be using alot more fuel (according to the on board comp) than before.

A steady 100 (60 mph) gives me 13-14 l/100 km, before it was running 7.7-9.0 or something like that.

It pulls fine at full throttle, but seems to judder a little at steady, slower speeds. Exhaust sound also seems noticably higher.

I have double checked everything that i have taken apart, and cant see anything wrong.

Could it be running rich on fuel for some reason, is it safe to drive.

Rad fan seems to be working more frequently than before also, and when i swithc the engine off, i can hear alot of water gurgling around in the hoses, leading me to think that the temp. is up also. Sadly my guage is not working (for a long time)

Whew, problem solved. My baby is back again.

Removed the electrical connector on the MAF, and replaced, then I resat the ECU (removed batt. + for 5 min.) and then everything was back to normal.

Cant descripe how happy I am, was really concerned for a moment.

I suspect that the MAF electrical plug might not have been plugged corretly at first, and then the ECU went into limp home mode, causing the poor running.

So the error came back. Spend like 8 hours of fault finding, and finally i found something.

At a steady 1500 RPM at standstill, the engine would run 1500, then drop to 1000 and then up again, in a circle of a couple of seconds. Idle speed was around 700, but jumping about 50 up and down.

Seems like the small damper thingy that the throttle body depresses when the accelrator pedal is released was not adjusted correctly.

I was moving it back and forward, and suddenly, like the flick off a switch it started to run smoothly.

I could even provoke the error to come back, if I adjusted the other way again.

I find this hard to understand, as the small damper does not have any vacuum hoses or electrical connectors to send signals anywhere, and I thought the only function was the throttle body was not closed to quickly.

Anyway, car run great as ever for a long strecth last night, so I hope that this was my fault, but do still not understand that this could have such a great impact on the performace. Does however explain, that the car ran ok at near full throttle, as the throttle body then is lifted completely off the damper thingy.

        Any comments on this?

My car has also been dooing this.

So the small damper on the inlet mainfold, and throttle body is causing this problem ? and hevy running.
My car felt like the hand brake was in at a stable speed. ?!?

Tell me if you find out something more.

          Cheers

Yeah, at from 0 to 100 app. it felt hesitating and a little stumbeling, and did not really want to pull. Kinda like the handbrake was a notch or two up. At more throttle and higher speeds everything was normal, also consuption.

Error came back today, because i did not get the small nut that locks the damper tightened properbly, so the damper had moved a little again. Adjusted once more, thightened the nut, and error is gone, so this damper defenitly has something to do with the running at slower speed and only partially open throttle body.

I think i know what the prolem is.

The TPS Throttle possition sensor that is lockated at the throttle body against the firewall.

My did not click when stepping of the throttle. so he adjusted it. (2 bolts)
Now everything seems to work fine, the car rews more smooth now.

                  Cheers
