    S2 Engine Oil

Does anybody else use Castrol GTX Magnatec (Advanced) 10W40 semi-synthetic oil ? I have been running it in mine for a year / 15000 miles & it says especially suitable for the VAG oil specs on the can.

It should be fine but if you can get Castrol RS 10w60 or Mobil 1 10w50 get it, your turbo will appreciate it a lot more!

I use the Gold Synta on mine.

Would u recommend something like that castrol with the 10 60 rating over the Synta, for which the rating elludes me right now, (its the fully synthetic oil)

Synta Gold is 5w40 - that's what I'm using at the moment.

I'm also using SYnta Gold. I always suspected it a teeny tad too thin for a high miler and after using it for a month or so, my view is backed up. On a hot idle the pressure is only just about what I consider comfortable. The lower pressure of course implies that is being circulated at a higher rate and I suspect there is maybe a very slight decrease in oil temperature on prolonged Motorway runs which would seem to back that notion up

Wouldn't want to use it for 1000's of miles even though its what VAG put in at services etc. Maybe I'm just too cautious - the pressure at high revs is fine of course.

But, it'll be Castrol R 10W/60 for me very soon.

I did buy can of Magnatec in the past but never used it after I read one or two posts alleging that it's magnetic nature can lead to adverse amounts of metallic debris collecting in the oil pump which leads to premature failure. £££££££££££££

Paul, what does ur pressure reading go down too? I have that synta stuff too, and i get really paranoid when it starts to drop below 2bar. When moving its all cool and pressure readings are good., but i hate it dropping low.

I have used synta gold and on hot idle, the oil pressure was dropping close to 1.5Bar - I didn't like that. I changed to Castrol RS10W60 and the pressure sits on the 2 bar when hot at idle. I also noticed my oil temperature gauge has actually started to move off the bottom of the scale now.

I got the Castrol from Classic Castrol Oil - I have a link somewhere - delivered free - I think it was about £32 for 4 litres +1 litre (don't quote me on that) - Interesting to hear how much Eurocarparts charge??

                    Euro carparts in Sheffield said:

'About £25+vat for 4 litres and £6+vat for a litre'. However it was obvious that he was pulling these figures out of the sky so I couldn't guarantee them

what about Synta Silver? Not sure now I type, but I thought it was 10W40. Often recommended for older engines

I'm running synta silver at the moment. The gauge hovers just below 2 bar. I will be changing the oil at 5000 mile intervals (I've always done it regardless of what car I'm driving) and more than likely doing a full service every 10,000. So in about 2000 miles I'll be changing again.

I have a 25ltr drum of synta gold (got stuck with it when a buyer pulled out - even a parts guru has to do side jobs) but don't know whether to use that instead.

I also use synta gold in mine, changed the oil a few days back.
However, after showing a porsche 968 what an s2 can do, my oil temp rose to around 130 degrees.
Looks like i'll have to try the 10/60 stuff

Whats the highest anyone seen their oil temp?
