    3b storage

hi, can anyone help me with some info on engine stoage. i have a 3b motor lying in my garage awating to be installed to my urquattro. it will be staying in the garage for another couple of months before i get it installed. i have blocked up all the inlet, outlet and any other holes and the engine currently has no oil in it. is it best for me to fill it with oil or will it be ok. any other storage/protection suggestions would be great. thanks.

ive heard of taking the spark plugs out and dribbling a bit of oil into the bores when cars have been stood for long periods.

I would get some oil in there to stop corrosion on the cyl bores. I have a bare cyl block in my gargae that needs re-oiled every two weeks to stop surface rust.

Try http://www.frost.co.uk/productList.asp and search in the Engine & Mechanical section.

You are looking for the lay up kits. These are basically desicants that screw into the spark plugs and ensure that no moisture is in the cylinder.

"When a vechicle is out of use, condensation and humidity builds up inside the engine causing damaging corrosion in the bores, bearings and valves. To keep moisture out, simply use an Engine Dehydration Kit. The kit contains dehydration plugs - used in place of spark plugs - and sachets of silica gel to protect the inlet and exhaust systems. The Capsule Regeneration Kit allows the capsules fitted within each dehydration plug to be regenerated over and over again."

Best if you drain the used engine oil and top up with some fresh. Must make sure that all the ports are sealed to stop mosture ingress.

Used one of the above on a Vaux LET and after 2 years storage the bores were as new. Expensive but so is a re-bore.
