GT3071 questions

Hi forum
My RS2 turbo is destroyed and I need a new turbo. And the Garret GT3071 is tempting me, will run moderate boost (running on stock internals, refurbed head recently thoug) but with headroom for future upgrades.

But I have some questions. Is anybody running this turbo w RS2 exh. manifold and will there be any clearance between turbo and chassis? Also, I have stock cams, will this be ok with this turbo? I know it won't be the optimum solution but will it work ok for a start? (will try to run my current RS2 software as 034 claims this will work ok).

Have searched forum for info, found several interesting threads but no answers for my qs.

3071 may not fit as the compressor side is a bit larger, but i not certain as i dont have a rs2 manifold.
3071 is gr8 and perfect upgrade for rs2 turbo with lotsa extra power.
should work with rs2 software but u will need bigger injectors for sure.
I had rs2 software on my car for a whilst and the car did not run 100% .. tends to surge with rs2 software and also hits the boost limit early as the ballbearing turbo spools up super quick.
you will defn need a custom software to get car 100% .

I feel 2871 is direct replacement for rs2 turbo and 3071 is a bigger upgrade in terms of power wise.

And then the clutch should be upgraded an so on, this will be awkward at the moment as I have limited space around the car where it is now. Hmm..

I would not have used the 2871, i´ve read that there can be problem with surging as you mentioned.

Hello,

I've installed a 3071R ar .63 turbo on a 4cyl golf III gti engine high compr and stock cams (ABF), with tubular exh manifold and works really nice, we use it on 1-1.2 bar and no surge, have boost over 2000 rpm, at 3000 rpm as much boost as i want till 8000rpm limit. So with 5 cyl i think you should use bigger turbine .82 or even 1.06 not to overrev the turbo and still have good drivebility, (if you want to boost it over 1.5 bar.)
But how you can install it on rs2 mnifold i dont have experience.

Do you have a pic of the compressor touching the chassis? I think i remember from a different tread that you were thinking of changing the engine mount, did you do that? I changed my engine mounts for a pair of new ones a while ago and the engine had better clearance from the chassis afterwards.

Javad I want the engine bay to look standard as in keep the rs2 airbox and rs2 intercooler and piping, rs2 inlet manifold, 034 RS2EM or RS2 EM I also want to achieve 400hp maybe more if the turbo will allow. What is my options and are any of your turbos on sale fits my category?

Absolutely, the GT3071 or the K26/T04E as described above fit the bill.

You can try to put some shims under the engine mount to tilt the engine a tad. I know its not after the book but hey,its worth a try A friend did just the same with his car and has run for years without problems with driveline stress or other things. He tilted his engine cuz of clearance for turbo....i think he "lifted" the engine 3 cm`s on one of the engine mounts (the right one)

I asked too , but the thing i said earlyer are the problems i found i brought a full kit maf hose , oil lines , turbo
