Cam Belt Change / Cylinder Head Fitting

I made my crank locking tool today so I could loosen my crank nut - had the home made T bar with axle stand propping it up - and the 8 foot of extensions ready- and the crank nut came off easier than a wheel nut - I crapped myself thinking the head of the bolt just snapped off - luckily(!) not - just as well I'm doing all this - at least I know when I put it back togehter it will be done properly.

    Pics to follow tomorrow.

I'm hoping to get it all back together this weekend - although a 2 hour discs, pads and brake fluid change on a polo took me 5 hours tonight - so it might take longer - I'm knackered.

The bloody sump is a PITA to get off - dropped the subframe as far as it would go but still hard to get into some of the bolts.

Hiya Doug, why are you removing sump? I only thought you had head problems? Is it oil pump you are tinkering with? Shame you didn't have an engine crane then you could have removed the whole lump in one and stripped /rebuilt checking clutch etc. whilst it was out then chucked the whole lot back in one go. I would have suggested this if I had known you were having sump off.
She should fly when you get her back together!

The simple task just grows and grows!.

While I had everything in bits I was going to change the crank seal as I had a small oil leak from somewhere at the front. It was suggested it might be easier to do that with the oil pump off - so that is coming off which means taking the sump off. At least all the gaskets will be changed - which I wanted to do anyway - it might have been easier to spot the leak but when my head problem happened, oil was getting sprayed everywhere.

If I had taken the whole engine out I would have thought I might as well put the carrillos, ross pistons and new clutch in while I'm at it - and that is too much for me just now.
