    re-chip - experiences please?

Hi ..I've just bought an unmodified S2 ABY, and want to rechip it to the 280bhp everyone talks about ... I'd be interested in anyone's experiences...

1- Currently the trip comp says I'm doing 22mpg with VERY careful driving.. will this get better or worse after chipping

2- which companies have people used... Supachips, AMG etc???

3- is there any danger of wear/damage to the engine/turbo afterwards.. assumingi'm not thrashing the car

4 does it give extra low rev torque as well as top end OOOmph

    ta

1// better if its done right
2// Keep miles away from superchips...

Either use forum member S2central to do you a homefry (you send your ecu to him) or MRC in Oxfordshire in Oxford are highly rated.
I chipped my own ecu with MTM chips and it was pretty easy if you are quite familiar with electronics

3/ No more danger than there would be anyway if you drove the car hard all the time. These engines seem pretty bulletproof from what Ive seen

      4// Yes

        s2dude,

When you said you chipped your own with MTM chips do you mean that you replaced the ROM's or programmed new / the original them with the MTM code?

        Cheers,
        Mark

            Re-map?

I've just had my RS2 custom re-mapped by MRC.

Can't say enough good things about them to be fair....

Minhea runs a realtime active re-map on your car whilst driving out on the roads
for a dynamic solution. Your car gets the right cooling etc and he dials in the settings.

Essentially, he upped the tickover as was very lumpy when originally up to temperature
removed the upper speed limit (not sure I'll need it but hey) and then re-mapped the in between.,,,, The difference is stark and quite noticable.

I'm told (by past MRC customers) that if you drive with low throttle you even get better mpg over stock. Driving it now, the car seems a LOT smoother throughout the range, with better pickup and quite a bit more punch.

In a nutshell, I recommend it! This is a very good way to optimise your car's components!

I'm very happy pulling apart my old desktop PC and swapping over chips, memory, drives etc..and then piddling about with it in pieces for a couple of days when it doesn;t work out... BUT would I be confident playing with the chip from a car.. I just don't know... maybe I need to research it a little and think about it.

What's the cost of a chip if you DIY???

AND... does re-chipping make the car run faster at idle (I'd hate that)

Phil, PM S2central about Homefries chips, cost roughly £250 and are tried and tested.

Search for home fries on the forum.

TBH there's only 3 choices for the S2 MRC, S2central and also investigate Chipswizards

the difference between stock and a homefry is night and day and so long as the car is heathly to start with (no boost leaks or engine niggles) you will be amazed at the power it unleashes with just a bit of software and circa £250.

Go for a custom map with MRC and you will have a specific remap for your car which should yield a bit more poke.

Personally I have seen better mpg from the upgrade but thats far less important than the torque/power you get as a result of having it done. if you can upgrade the brakes first then do it but whichever way you do it, it will be the best £250 you will spend on the car.......before you spend a further £2000 going to RS2+ spec (yet to do it myself...)

Sorry guys, still finding me way here! Am I right then that to operate properly I would need at least a 250kpa bar map sensor to work with a homefry chip in a 3B? And a re-map? This is probably the only power upgrade I'm likely to do on the car but it sounds worth it - just not been sure about the map sensor!

                          cheers

Im on the Digi chip that everyone will advise you against, had it over ohh i dunno 10 - 20k and everything is fine. I only went down this route as no others were available at the time, but if I was in your shoes I'd get myself down to MRC or like others said get the homefry.

As for questions weather u need this sensor or that sensor best person to ask is the person you are going to buy the chip from (MRC or forum member, not ebay seller lol)

Yes a 250kpa sensor but the 3B chip is only available via MRC IIRC
