    Horror Pics - S2 spaghetti!

Gulp... what a mammoth job this has turned out to be.... and this is the state of my pride and joy at the moment! Finally managed to get all the heater ducting units out (what flipping chew that job is!! Dont try this at home kids..).

and the big hole where the busted no heat giving air con lived. Its gone yay!!

Anyone know how the ECU is housed or rather is attached to this housing on the side of the blower duct. This is what I have:

The Aircon unit Ive stripped was massive, obviously not standard, so it didnt have room for the ECU - instead it lived lived in a silly but very well made little shelf under the glove box. Now with the replacement unit it can finally go back where its supposed to but I seem too be missing a bracket perhaps for it to clip into!!

Im not even sure which way it faces in the holder!! Cant put the car back together till I figure this one out!!

    cheers!!

    You absolute nutcase
The ECU doesn't clip into any bracket really. it's sort of wedged up behind the ducting. Multiplug connector facing down, not up.

Aching everywhere, hands shredded and still not finished! Got the matrix unit back in - no real idea what was the problem blocking the flap thats started off this whole mad escape! Did find a 8mm socket and some pop rivetty thing loose in there so that night've been it. Actually got the flap working with it all in situ but decided to pull the whole out put and swap in back to non aircon as I'd gone that far.

I guess I could tie-wrap the ECU up - there's nothing to hold it in place as according to the family album im missing a intermediate plate 893 906 407a Unless anyone has one spare!

Can hardly type after managing to get the lower of the 2 bolts thru the bulkhead that securess the matrix housing off n on.

      Yep im a teapot

The Ecu has a sort of cage type bracket fastened to it with a big gold clip attached...(which you will need to get from the stealers)

There is also a smaller gold clip that holds the top of the ecu right up high behind the dash (though its not needed)...a tie wrap and the main clip suffice and make it easy to remove again.

The ECU is slotted into the black plastic shown in the 2nd from bottom picture and the Big gold clip then slides up the groove and lodges in the "notch" bit once it is correctly seated.

Alas I have no pics and I only had it in my hand a week or two ago
but Im pretty sure this is correct.

Paul, I have the bracket for the ECU, if you cover postage, it's yours.

Well the good new is the interior is now looking like this!

                .

Absolutely knackered - everything seemed to take 4 times longer than it should, some imposssible to access bolts (must be an S2 then!! ) but at least its done!! So Ive a new dash, non aircon blower/heater unit, no more stupid ECU shelf, fixed the saggy centre consol and plumbed in a bluetooth handsfree kit - and I hope at last.. HEAT!!

Feeling knackered but a little chuffed with myself that I did it! Needs a damn good vac and must sort the carpet shrinkage evident in the pics. Next up the jacquard panels will be stripped and replaced with leather - hopefully a doddle after this lot!!

Intersting to compare the differences between the bloody huge aircon blower unit mine orginally had and which had to go:

to the non air con verson it now sports, like yours! Cant believe the extra space behind the glove box!

Nice one mate! off our rockers aint we!!

that looks real scary, but might have to do a similar job to sort out the central locking in my drivers door.
