    A list of problems

Yesterday I got round to fitting my boost gauge. On my first drive it won't boost beyond 0.4 BAR, which it only gets to post 3000rpm, also it doesnt't hold any boost. The car also has a hesitation mainly in second between 15-2500 rpm, where it feels crap almost like the handbrake is on. It also flutters a little on tickover. Did a forum search, and ended up fixing a new WGFV which means the car now boosts to 0.8 bar, still this drops of almost instantly, and it also seems to have made all the other problems worse. Is this a huge boost leak? I have recently fitted a complete set of Samcos and done the Mark H mod, so I cant think where it would be? I have a 3b and am unsure if it is chipped as its from a scrapper. I will wap it on the scanner at work tomorrow and see if that throws any light on it.

Checking ECU errorcodes should get some more usefull ideas; if its a ECU controlled reduction of boost there should be errorcode(s) stored. No errorcodes would indicate a leak.

Are you sure the vacuum line to the ecu is good? and you fitted the gauge/t piece correctly? (hard not too )

I had similiar problems after installing boost gauge..... (eg// I saw just how crap my car was boosting!!!)

      = Boost leak

Check all of the vacuum lines (the small diameter ones) and try a boost leak test....
Andyp on this forum sells a great kit for about £20 all in I think.
I bought one the other day and am WELL PLEASED with it

      Nice work AndyP

Alex, sounds like a boost leak to me. Have you pressure tested the system since the hoses were fitted? Happy to look over it with you if you need a hand. I have a variety of chips you can try to rule out problems with maps.

thanks for the help guys, checked the ecu no codes at all. Checked my sparkplugs today all tight. Might try a airflow meter tomorrow. Still think there is a boost leak but i'm not convinced its the only problem. Its also stalled a couple of times whilst braking in 2nd gear after accelerating. I hate it like this.

And have you checked if your camgear was set one mark before the listed Audi marks?

After essembling my S2, mine boosted max 1,5 bar and only in end of rpm's - so feels like the engine has to push the turbo all the way - not like before when boost came full at 4000 rpm.

            added picture of correct timing

            Cheers

Sorry, my Audi is a 3B as far as I am aware it should be dead on the mark for these engine. I tried a maf today as I have one kicking about no luck, the car consistently stalls if you depress the clutch in second after accelerating
