It is easyer then to turbocharge. My customer had a ford mondeo v6 st 175 which has been superchaged, we only installed a vortech charger, a bigger fuel pump, bigger injectors, a boost referenced fuelpress regulator(i think stock v8 audi can be used ) and to have better result, we changed to a dta pro8 ( ford has a hardly mappable ecu, audi v8 has better). Supercharged engine responds similar to n/a, so u dont need map sensor! If the maf sensor can measure the bigger incoming air mass no problem to remap like a tuned n/a.
We measured for that ford 250 hp@7000rpm@ 0.8 bar boost.
80 horses increase on a stock engine. CR 10-10.5:1 !!!
The problem with a supercharger is it heats up the air more then turbo, so for the best result u need to install a good air cooler, maybe a water air cooler.
I've planned the same project as u a few years ago. My opp is: whipple changer with water/air cooler, modify intake plenum, forged rods, pistons, ported head ,big fuel pump, 2 injectors/cyl for drivebility and economy+ dta ecu maybe mod cams.
estimation: 500hp@6900 rpm @ 1 bar
580nm@5000 rpm @ 0.9 bar (boost changes over the rpm range !!!)
with charger: screw type, volume 130 cu in/rev, belt ratio 2:1
Wab: The friend of mine try to turbocharge his S4 94 4.2L engine for the last few years.... No success yet.
Supercharging is easier but i don't think that much easier. Btw i've seen/hold original MTM supercharger for 4.2l engine. It costs 60 or 80K USD from them =] , need a photo :> ?
