i see your point.so the best way before paying at least 2800euro for a new cylinder head is to do nothing at all, just pressure test the cylinder and leave it at that?
Is it possible that a welding could eventually do more harm than good?(by weakening the nearside parts of the area?)Comment

I'd just check that the cracks don't travel too far up the plug threads and have it pressure tested. Unless of course the head is off because it was giving you problems?Mark - ModdedComment

no actually the head was off to replace the valve stem seals and generally to give it a good look around.I had never read of those cracks being a weak point of the engine and i was under the impression that thee engines can take a rough beating and withstand a lot.I guess i was wrong.Although the picture is not a good one,i can describe that the crack is mostly more like a line rather than a piece of metal missing due to melting or damage. The crack on top (in the picture) also seems to have a small leveling which could be machined. The crack line goes from one side to the other but as i say it is only a line, and does not have any width or anything missing like being broken.Up to now i didnt have any water draining into the oil of the engine, nor my oil consumption was anything out of the ordinary(having consumed around 3ltr in 12000Kms).
im thinking of getting a good used replacement head for backup and just use this one as it is.im going to give it a comperession test anyway.Only thing is that i think that since this is only a line crack i cant imagine what could a possible service to that point do...?do you?Comment
