    Strange RPM sensor issue...

    Hello everyone !

Here's a tricky one for the experts !

My friend Philippe has some longtime issues with his S2 and he's asked me to ask the forum about the following... Basically, his Avant boosts fine ( MTM ECU and RS2 turbo ) and perfectly till 1.3 BAR but as soon as RPM climbs higher, his boost cuts out when he should be getting about 1.8 BAR.
He's been told that his RPM sensor is at fault and needs to be replaced...

Any thoughts, suggestions are very welcome !

Thanx in advance and take care all y'all !

    David

RPM sensor code is always there if the engine hasn't been started. I have a feeling...

Boost leak check is #1. How does the "boost cut" appear? Face-to-windshield type?

He's got full Samco kit with new clamps so a boost leak is unlikely... The boost cut out is very subtle, more like pulling the handbrake...

Sounds like failing coilpacks to me - a boost leak at WOT is usually quite a brutal event. Alternately the car could just be knocking and its the knock sensors doing their job and you feel the engine 'holding back'.

1.8bar boost is pretty extreme for an RS2 turbo and you would need very good fuel in my opinion for healthy running at those boost levels.

The coilpacks are only 3 years old but I'm not sure about the coilpack connectors

I'll forward your suggestion about the anti-knock sensors...

            Thanx porkkis and Paul !
