    something odd...

    hi every1,

i wanted to ask anyone who has seen this before...After reconnecting my new EM to the cylinder head and the turbo to its place,as we tried to connect the wastegate it seems that we are loosing some gas fumes from the connection of the wastegate to the EM.It seems that the new EM has a bit smaller diameter that my wastegate so that is the reason of the air loss.Apparently audi doesnt have any flange at that place.

What should i do with this?does it go away?how do i fix it....?

You haven't lost the sealing ring that's between the wg housing and the wg valve, have you?

no that is in place. What seems to be the problems is that the piston that seals the hole on the EM does not sit excactly right on the hole apparently because the EM is new and the WG is old and probably heat manipulated by all these years. It only seals 2 sides and leaves off the other 2.What we will do is try to cut off 1-2mm of metal from the base of the wastegate in order for the piston to sit closely on the hole of the EM and seal it off...Wastegate new is NOT an option.Im also afraid to buy a used WG since it may present the same problem now that the EM is new

AFAIK the ring is what seals the whole thing to the EM. It sits between the WG housing and the EM, and also between the WG valve and the EM. First and second picture pretty much explains it all. Last picture shows the surface on the EM on which the ring sits on.

floppy,i think you saved the day...Im afraid i didnt see this ring anywhere the last time i was there and probably it must have been misplaced during all the work around the garage...I contacted my mechanic and he agreed on that part. Many thanks!!!

Apparently this is what you get when only 15 RS2 have been imported to Greece...very few people know everything about their job...
