Almost new T04E/K26 turbine is slacking

For starters I’m saying that this thread isn’t to blame anybody. Im just saying what happened to me.

I bought a new T04E/K26 turbo from EFI Motorsport. When I received it, we took pictures of it and we measured every peace of it. Then I installed that turbo on my S2 Avant. We used very solid oil and water lines, oil pressure restrictor, I did drive in for about 600km (never used boost more than 1.0 bar). After drive in I’m using 1.9 bar boost. To be honest I don’t know what can be done more correctly. I did everything I could do that no mistake can happen, but still.. Now, after about 1400km
the turbine is slacking and that slacking is pretty big. I wrote an email to Javad, but he said that they are checking every turbo before it is sent etc.

Any advice from you guys what should I do?

should you use this turbo with a restrictor?

Does it have Ball bearings or not?

      T3 Turbo Oil Inlet Restrictor - http://www.034motorsport.com/product...d5aae9d0903022

The thrust bearing T3 center section only needs 10-15psi to lubricate effectively. Many motors produce oil pressure in excess of 70psi, often forcing oil past the shaft seals, causing smoking problems.

      K26/T04E Hybrid Turbo

Hybrid turbo for upgrade of KKK K24 and K26 applications. Standard configuration features the following: K26 #6 turbine housing with T3 Stage 3 turbine. T3 heavy duty center section with water cooling and 360 degree thrust bearing.

i have used many type of thrust bearing turbo without restrictor and i never had problem. maybe the information is not perfectly correct on the website.

I was told by turbodynamics that this oil restrictor thing is complete ****!!! A garrett turbo DOES NOT require a restrictor. A GT turbo does, but its built into its oil fitting on the CHRA.

You possibily wore out your turbo due to low oil preasure.

Maku , I was told to run a restrictor with my T04e/K26 High output ...
never had any problems with the turbo, i'm sure you have to run a restrictor in all the garretts as you can get smoking without one.

Never use the restricter. Turbodynamics says its a internet rumour that has got out of hand. Call turbodynamics and ask youself. I have never ran a restricter on any turbo (including garret GT ball turbos) and never had any problems. 034 are obviously wrong on this one.

Every Garrat BB turbo we supply from 034 comes with a restrictor. The pressure from Audi engines blows them to bits without the restrictor.

034 are wrong? you got any actual evidence other than some company that refurbs turbo's?
                        What do Garrat say?

Garrett BB turbos have a restrictor built into the CHRA. I stripped a GT30 71R and saw this myself. It was something like 1-2mm dia. So by fitting a extra restrictor you will do no harm on the GT. The ball berring center needs very little oil flow.

BUT the older thrust bearing turbos need full oil preasure. This is not BS. Their are no "seals" to blow on a turbo. The seal is a piston ring. You will not damage the ring from too much oil preasure. Dont put a restrictor in line. If you get smoke out the exhaust its a sine of other faults (restritive oil return.... holset recomend no less than 19mm ID!).

I am just passing on info i have been given from turbodynamics, and my own practical experience. Make of it as you will. Turbo Dynamics are not just a turbo rebuilder but a main garrett importer to the uk. Call them on 01202487497, ask for Craig, Mano or even the boss man Peter Marsh. they will confirm...... It is nessacery to run water through a garrett BB CHRA and also advisabled to run a inline oil filter, not just to help the Balls, but to stop the built in restrictor blocking.

Craig from TD told me that oil flow restrictors are great news for them as they get lots of rebuilds out of it. Also the "restrictor" blocks easy and then starves the oil flow all together.

I have 3 bb Chra,s running with no external restrictor..... ZERO PROBLEMS. Just my experience.... your milage may vary
