    Slow temp rise

The Avant is terribley slow to warm up in comparison to the Coupe.

When i was bleeding the system it took the car nearly 40 minutes to reach 90c where as the Coupe did it in about 10 both sat on the drive.

Recommendations? New thermostat and any particular sensors?

I don't think a rich condtion is likely to cause pinging not to mention "blinging" whatever that might be A lean AFR is more likely to cause knock or ping isn't it?

Thermostat - what does it run at when cruising down the Mway at 70/80? My coupe used to drop to 70 in the winter. New thermostat and coolant sorted that out. Is it running the extra radiator and the coupe wasn't? (That could quite obviously make a difference).

Originally it wasn't running the aux rad as it had burst so i had it blanked off.

It was still very slow then it got slower with the aux rad which i expected.

              I'll replace the thermostat.

Having the aux rad back in will make a big difference in warm-up rate, also sounds like the 'stat is suspect. What about the MTFS, that could be fubarred as well? All your favourite jobs!

I've had a similar issue with mine, it never seem to run at more than 60 on the gauge, until I replaced the main rad, which caused the rear housing to crack due to increased pressure, I've replaced that today and discovered that the head gasket has blown!!!

Hopefully, you aint got the same problem!

Which rear housing? And which increased pressure? (some explanation asked by a beginner...)

Thermostat is the likely choice, i think every audi i have owned has needed that, they don't last that long either 2 years and it's time to do it again.
