Okay with big turbo and no tuning?

Well.. My turbo is blown and my budget really leaves me with two options:

    1. Get the old one rebuilt. Problem solved, but sooo boring.

    2. Get a bigger one, like the GT3071. But this will leave me with little money for mapping and tuning. So that will have to wait till next summer.

I know that I will buy a bigger turbo some time or another, so it would be a shame really to waste money rebuilding the old one now..
So.. Can i run a 3071 or similar on my RS2 with my MTM 340hp chip? And maybe some new injectors?

Allready upgraded to h-beam rods, arp-bolts etc..

    Thanks

Rebuild the old one for now.
When you are ready for the GT3071 sell the KKK - youll get your money back on the rebuild when you sell it on - right now its worth nothing...
You problably know your fuelling will be totally out with the GT3071 on boost even if yuo do run it on base boost - id hate to throw all that hard work and money youve spent on your engine away for the sake of a few quid on a rebuild...

You'd get your money back selling on a rebuilt RS2-turbo. So I'd go for the safe option. And an MTM-340bhp RS2 is "boring"?! You must be a thrillseeker...

If you drive around with the GT3071, you may be ok. I had a re-mapped K24 (circa. 300bhp) and when i replaced it with the GT3071 it worked remarkably well, and controlled boost nicely - we found this prior to mapping, until then i had taken it pretty easy. Felt similar (later spool-up but boost came in faster once the revs were up) & there was definitely a bit of an extra kick in the mid-range!

However.. I know Mihnea mentioned he'd mapped one on an RS2 and it behaved rather differently to my 3B, I think regarding boost control, so you could end up getting outta control boost and running ultra-lean. Your risk I guess, and if I were you I'd consult whoever you plan on using to map the car for an expert opinion!

      Cheers
