  • Oil consumption :(

I have noticed recently that the tub has started to use more oil than it ever used to! More than likely my fault for increasing the boost at high mileage! Anyways, back to the problem.

I think its the turbo gone, the reason behind this is that If it was bottom end then it would smoke under acceleration.

My car doesnt do that, it only smokes on start up first thing in the morning. And its quite bad. Im fairly sure its not the top end as I have done the VS oil seals when the head gasket failed, and the guides were good.

So that only leaves the turbo. Its warranty runs out 27 Feb, so time is not on my side for once!! They claim the turbo can run upto 2 bar, so im assuming that the warranty will cover this? Will have to phone then tomorrow.

If anyone has any other thoughts on this? There is also a lot of oil in the intake tracts too. So it could be worn rings?

Dude your car has always done that to some extent, it did with the old turbo. I reckon it could be bottom end dude . 2.5 time ???

an easy way to check to start with is to take the intake pipe off for the turbo and check for any oil there, and also the amount of oil you have going into the intake pipe to the throttle body.

Ben, In 1 post you mention hammering it (140mph!) being late for work so I assume the engine was up to temperature on this freezing cold morning??? Now you are using oil? Hmm...... :nana:

Spoke to a turbo specialist today about this problem, basically the cold side oil seal has gone pop. Its caked the intake system with oil and this is the problem. Not uncommon. He said check the end float on the shaft and if its ok then its just a seal gone. If the shaft has movement back and forth then the thrust bearing has gone and it needs overhauling.

I checked the shaft and its ok, so its just an oil seal popped. I will be removing the turbo within the next week or so and sending it off for warranty work!! (thank god). Will post results as soon as i get them.

sounds like what happened to my original K24 a while back. just got another K24 for mine instead then tho.

How much would it cost to have that done otherwise?

What are they going to do to stop this happening again Tom? Do you get another years warranty on this fix?

No new warranty Nothing they can do. Its just a failure. Its done about 12000 miles tops. Already has 360 deg. trust bearings so not much more can be done, execpt rebuild.

When its being done, i will get them to change the exhaust housing for a #8 instead of the #6, should give more top end power, just where i like it

                          ******, ******, ******. Its not the blower

Just done a cylinder leakage test and have found that all cylinders have a large amount of blow by, meaning the rings are worn. approx 30-40%!!!

This would explain the reduced performance i am experiencing too, compression has dropped.

So its gonna come off the road when the tax is out end of feb and have the bottom end done. Complete strip down, re-paint block and new seals galore!

All donations please send to VAGparts!!

Unfortunately my budget isnt as large as yours! I will have to keep my std rods for now. May do that another time.
