Hmmm, I vever heard of a used stretch bolt cracking a block. Learn somethng new everyday, eh?

50% would be fine now that you mention it. Excellent suggestion.

Stretch bolts are a single use anyway and should be replaced each time

No need to replace them when you are going to remove them again right away. Just checking for clearance, gotta get your Play-Do out of the cylinder!

Where does a grown man(without kids) find play-doh. I think I will use blue-tac with some oil on it to stop it sticking.

I'm going to do this just for peace of mind and to know how much of a gap there is - thanks.

Sorry, with a 3 and 5 year old in the house Play-Doh is quite common.
            Good luck.

Imagination, Douglas. Me and the missus don't have kids but we have loads of toys (tin can alley, R/C cars, etc). Basically any kids toys we like the look of. We even have kandoo:eek2: . We've decided that if we don't get married we can have far more gadgets and fun stuff. Plus I get to spend what I like (can afford) on the S2 and she gets to buy shoes and handbags to her hearts content.

                  Doug,

you think you have worries about valve to piston gap.

I got my cylinder head back today after having the pressure test and valve work done and when they resurfaced it they had to take a massive amount off to get it straight .
The upshot of this is that it is on the limit (just) as stated in the Audi workshop manual, the head was warped apparently in a couple of directions.
Problem is I am using 7A inlet and exhaust cams and this certainly isn't going to help any clearance issues.
I am going to definately do something I think with the head gasket, with a new thicker laser cut centre piece possibly, @ Lee you have a PM.

If that goes well it'll be on another thread.

This tuning hobby is getting a bit expensive, bit pissed off at the moment  .

                  Mark.

Mark - here is a pic of my head before it had 8 thou taken off. Can you show me a pic that shows were that line is on your head(that line will move more towards the centre of the chamber, the more that is machined off) - be interesting to see the difference.

                    Cheers

                      Doug,

Here's a pic of my head. It's been skimmed at least once. I'm waiting for the engineering company to re-cut a valve seat and check it's face for warping. Should be up and running soon

That looks nice and shiny Steve

I am worried now - becasue yours does not have that edge (I highlighted in my pic) overlapping your seats? Is the correct or is your pic too shiny to see that edge

Did you do the polishing yourself? Any pics of your inlet ports?
