Silkolene Pro-s 10w50 for me. I was on Castrol 10w60 but was advised that it is a little too thick.

Read the threads and go with the oil that you feel most comfortable with based on the spec of the car.

I have to add that Oilman (Opie oils) has posted some very technical explanations and seems to know his onions.

I would also recommend you do go fully synthetic (and one of the brands mentioned in the main threads) especially if you are chipped or going for a bit of extra power.

The oil has to work as a heat sink too, and the more power you have the more heat needs to be dissipated....

    Cheers,

    Steve.

I did as well but a couple of years back it got thinner IIRC (0-40w instead of 5-40w ?) and I started to use oil between changes.
Switched to Motul 5-40w, now 10-40w with less oil use, smoother engine, ? better economy.
I think you will find all the threads can be summarised as follows

      Ideally use a fully synthetic
      10-40/50w
Change it on a regular basis (6k/6monthly)
New OEM filter/sump washer each time
Keep a regular check on levels (once a week)

and that would make a very easy on the eye sticky

The Avant currently uses 5W40 my old Coupe (S2Ian) has Silkolene Pro-s 10w50 in it.

Think i'll be switching next change although tht 5W40 does suit the cars journies.
