    Disaster!!!!!

I was on my way to the local club meet last night in the S2, as I approached the island where the boozer is I stopped and waited for a car, I then pulled away quickly (about 4 grand and fed the clutch in) and the car started rumbling and clattering.

When I pulled on the car park the engine sounded bad, so I turned around to park and it cut out When I tried to start it the starter just spins around, on closer inspection I noticed that the flywheel was spinning but the front pullies were not

When we tried bumping it it did have some compression which IMO rules out snapped flywheel bolts so I reckon a snapped crank

How can a 4 grand lauch snap a crank???? I'm now very down on the Avant as it goes from one problem to the next. Could be heading for the tat yard.

    Shiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiit

Guess you really need to pull the plugs and crank it over on the crank pulley to get a decent diagnosis.
Hope its not as bad as your initial diagnosis!.

Recent work: Rebuilt gearbox, new clutch, topend rebuild including guides, seals and cam chain, all belts replaced, new water pumps and rad.

I'll let you know what I find.

It could be the woodruff key on the crank pulley has broken hence the front belts not turning

Sounds more like a crank pulley, I havnt seen many cranks snap, If it is the case then hopefully nothing to bad, a few new valves, headgasket kit new crankwheel and away you go

If just done the headgasket!! Oh well The one thing I didn't do was the wobbly crank pulley!! So that's what happens if you leave a wobbly pulley on.

Yeah looks that way. Providing the woodruff key hasnt damaged the crank end you will just need a new key and pulley, prob best get an engineering firm to check it out for you.

The top end is a different story unless you were extremely lucky you will probably have 20 Bent valves and require a head rebuild.
