Why have they been sold by 034 and others as an upgrade then ?

Well wouldn't it be a shock to find 034 selling something **** they hadn't bothered testing the function or quality of whatsoever. As the saying goes.. "A fool and his money are easily separated".....

The lightweight lifters have much less material around the crown and have catastrophically failed in service; basically the top can completely collapse.

For those who haven't read the findings and background on light weight lifters, here are a couple good links. The links contained within are also excellent reading.

About draining oil from the head, thats exactly what ive done on my quattro, drilled a hole in the back of the head, approx 1cm above the temp sender, beneath the cams and welded an an-12 fitting and then a hose to the sump, no breather from the cover, all my breathing is in the sump.

And ive used the lw ina lifters, one of them cracked, fortunatly i saw it before it sid any damage, now i use oem lifters
