Timing belt change

Maybe the air gun will get the bolt off but so will an angle grinder eventually. Doesn't mean it is OK.
There is a seriously large number of upsetting stories around the audi forums of peoples engines being destroyed by failed crank pulleys. Why anyone would risk this for the sake of sorting the correct tool I don't know.
Get the tool, get the 3/4 in drive breaker bar and probably a pole to slide over that to get the leverage and enjoy driving around in your car until the next belt change comes round.

Its not difficult to do it right. and once you have the tools sorted, always have them for future use...Leave a comment:

With a fragile pulley like on the I5, I wouldn't go anywhere near it with an air gun.Leave a comment:

Air gun to open the bottom pulley mike it’s serious tight. 5 Cylinder timing belts are the easiest belt ever to to do why talk it up be be something complicated when it’s not !!!!Leave a comment:

Air gun for a timing belt ? Probably the worst advice I've ever seen on this forum. I have a locking tool that I'll be looking to sell as I sold my S2. Let me know if you're interested.. It's made by 4MLeave a comment:

Air guns are known for cracking the OE pulleys, which are weak as it is.
I made my own locking tool in half an hour with a piece of pipe, a short length of angle iron, grinder and a welder.
Well worth doing as you have it for next time.

If you have a decent air gun you won’t need any locking tool. If your not changing the bottom pulley you don’t require any special tools just a bit of using your headLeave a comment:

I got all my parts from Autodoc. Just double check you are ordering the correct parts as after sales is CR#P

Does anyone on here know where I can get a Special tool for cambelt change for my 1996 ABY?
Also are those parts listed above still available? ie waterpump? etc.. and would I get them from the websites of those company names stated?
Also when referring to a CrMo, do you mean the crank shaft pulley? and is this a modified one from Terrybullwon?
Thank you,
Chris (Looking at doing my cambelt change myself... (Atm Audi aren't doing parts anymore so its very difficult to source parts.)Leave a comment:

Got my pulley today. Looks like a good bit of kit. I went with a Gates belt and an SKF water pump.Leave a comment:
